@Jester: Um, really you're going to ruin the frivolous?

Ugh, okay then how about a complete mind transfer leaving the uman body as more of an empty puppet allowing for complete control of the synthetic.

Or perhaps for people who were veterans or what not or obtained it form an accident the synthetic could become a synthetic limb providing enhanced strength of said body part and the ability to summon the synthetic at the cost of loosing your limb for as long as it functions.

Then again what about a sense synthetic, one that manifests itself after the lost of one of a persons senses like sight, hearing, taste, or touch, and the synthetic gets an ability based off of it's stolen sense while providing a direct link to provide a sense relay back to it's user. The items could manifest themselves accordingly, like headphones, gloves, masks, etc.

Maybe an emotional synthetic, one that brought life by feasting upon the emotions of it's user, leaving the user unable to access that emotion from that point onward while the synthetic becomes that emoition incarnate, which would of course lead to a few interesting situations, such as the nicest person in the wolr having a synthetic of pure hatred and bloodlust, and vice versa.

but then again, will said synthetics have minds of their own or are they more along the lines of puppets?
