This basically turned into a giant wanking contest from the beginning. I'm all for pretending it never happened at this point and discluding it from the lore.

I assumed that once we had fought it out long enough that we had decided that it wasn't worth the effort and just hanged out in the same dimension after that.

Same reason superman vs. goku never go anywhere satisfactory. Neither side wants the other to loose so it basically becomes an endless stalemate/insultfest.
