a lighting rod only works because it's buried in the ground. Basic physics, it chanells the free electrons back into the earth working as a circuit, otherwise it would just super heat and melt.

Well It depends, which will break first, the electric eel eel skin of the penultimate, or the electric cage of the master of cores. In theory if you don't wan't to teleport you could just nullify it through another means but, I'm not in the mood to give a hint.
