Of course he has a history, he's be a fairly 2-D character without one. He was once a Skylord, a species that closely resembles dragons but with a few major differences. He Broke one of the Sacred laws of the Skylords and was banished from their ranks and forced into a mortal form. He has a human body and the soul of a Skylord.

Wrong, The Dragonborn character in Skyrim is a person (among others) who was blessed by Talos with the "blood of dragons" and the Ability to absorb their knowledge of the dragon Language and its power.
