There feels to be a few loose items in the pack. Upon opening it you find some supplies. At the bottom of the pack is a coil of rope (approx. 5ft.). piled inside the coil are..

...4 gold pieces...

...a large worn book titled "Dr. Darius Dont's Dungeon Manual"...

...a strange tag with the word "INFO" printed on it....

...a odd multicolored prism with the number 10 engraved in it...

...a curious contraption consisting of an empty orb attached to a hollow needle....

Star takes the book and opens it up to examine, leaving all the magic items to his wizard friends.

Willow shows the contents of the pack to the others.

"A very odd hoard this one had in life" Willow comments.

Pulling an object out at random, the curious needle, he begins to inspect it for a possible use.

The "manual" appears to be hand written. The scrawling type is arranged haphazardly on every page. A few pages are illustrated with hasty sketches of items and creatures. It seems that the book had been written by an explorer to the Dungeon who wished to catalog his experiences and discoveries for future adventurers.

The needle seems mostly normal, save for the odd magical glow coming from the orb on top. it seems the orb might be used to hold something.

I flip through the book looking for anything written about the tag, prism, and needle, then try to find descriptions of the dungeons first few rooms.

Flipping through the book, Star comes across an image that bears a striking resemblance to the Tag the group had found in the Pack. The entry written beneath it was brief.

"I've come across an odd tag in my adventure. I've drawn an image above. The tag seems magical, but I'm not sure what it could be used for."

The is a brief space as if the writer had stopped writing and resumed later.

"It seems the tag can be tied to objects. Once tied the tag will attempt to display information about the object on it's face. Unfortunately, since it has such a small face, the information it provides is often limited or cryptic."

There seems to be no passages specifically about the needle or the prism, but a short entry under magic gear catches Star's eye.

"I've been told that there may be tools in this dungeon with magic abilities specifically for creating or modifying the gear found down here. I should like to find such a tool, but have been unsuccessful thus far."

"Wise findings friend" Willow says as he takes the tag out to try on the individual items, as well as the journal.

"That prism looks beautiful." Xlprq remarks, almost without thinking, "Though, I doubt I'd know what to do with it, or that needle orb deal. Does anyone object to me taking the vest, pants and boots?"

While the prism seems tempting to get his hands on, and the needle orb seems more like something he might like to look at more closely, the clothes seem more practical. Nudism never really had appealed to him.

While he does that, Star is going to examine the body of the Looter to try and determine how it was killed.

Twitchy as ever, the trusting Name Goes Here continues to look around for whatever killed the sucker before it comes back and/or gets hungry.

When attached the tag's lettering shifts and bleeds, changing into new words. As the manual had suggested, the phrases were short and difficult to decipher.

Prism - "Color Change Uses 10"

Needle - "Absorb/Hold Theme Gear"

Book - "Guide Dungeon Incomplete"

Looking over the Looter a large burn is found on his back. There is no charring around the flesh and the wound is not cauterized, suggesting that there was no fire involved.

Looking around, Name Goes Here finds several suspicious patches of stone that seems to have been partially melted. The patches are low to the ground  and seem to form lines pointing towards one of the passages off the room the Looters now occupy.

Star looks between the mark on the looters back and the melted stone of the floor. He jumps up and walks over them, following them to the mouth of the passage. "Burned to death, but no fire involved. No damage on the looters armor either." He walks back to thee body, thinking. Then, he slams his fist into his palm, the whites of his eyes resolving into exclamation points. "Eureka! This man was killed by a blast of steam!"

"A set of very curious items" Willow comments "Such the like I would never see in nature. It would not be wise to keep them all in once place where they could be damaged."

He hands the needle over to Xlprq who had been eying it and ties the string of the info tag to his arm band before slipping the tag between the metal and his arm.

"That would leave the prism for you if you would have it" Willow says facing Name Goes Here, handing the object to him as he lifted the pack back onto his back.

Hearing Star's exclamation, Willow moves over to investigate. "An unfortunate end indeed. We should do our best to avoid such a fate."

The whites of Star's eyes become stars for a moment as he gets an idea. He runs back over to the fallen looter and, after tearing a part of his shirt off and wrapping it around his arm for later blade polishing, he lifts the body up and places it over his shoulder, carrying it to the passage from whence the melted stone leads.

With a cry of "Not even in death does duty end! Hup!" he chucks the dead torso as far as he can down the passageway.

The looter's body ragdolls down the passage in an almost comical fashion and flops to a sudden halt a couple yards in. For a moment all that is heard is the distant echoing thud of it's impact reverberating back into the gloom. Then a small crack snaps open in the ground a a small vent of steam hisses upwards.

Then another.

and another.

Soon, dozens of cracks erupt open in a chain reaction down the hall, filling the passage with thick steam. After a few moments the hissing subsides as the pressure is released and the corridor again falls silent. Though now it is filled with steam.

The room begins to grow a little hotter as the steam heats the air.

Willow moves forward and strikes the floor with his staff near where the outermost edge of the steam vents had appeared.

"With any luck it make take awhile for the trap to build up steam and reset. We could pass through during the delay."

"Excellent plan." Star said, rushing through the corridor at a dead run.

(If there is anything left of the looter I scoop it up to throw into the next room.)
