"hmm perhaps we should try a different route then. The creature we are looking for is a beast of fire correct? If so then he is the being which generates this heat, and as such should reside in the hottest location. Who hear can detect heat?"

Just then, a large lion with a flaming mane came charging towards us. When it roared you could feel the heat of it's breath.

I look around and fire several spikes of metal at it.

The lion roars and white hot flames shoot from its throat to melt the metal spikes.

Seeing the beast chage I side step, turning, shielding ,y body form the heat with the millitary gear and simultaneously pulling a large iron spear from it's holder on my back, before ramming it into the lions neck, just below the main concentrating all of my weight on that one point and pushing upwards, and then down, breaking it's balance and pushing it to the ground. I twist the spear cutting it's way out and leap back assuming a defense stance. "I wonder if these breed of lion comes precooked."

(A: Where did you suddenly get a spear from? B: the heat would kill you and melt your spear when you stuck inside the lion. C: Let other people have some fun before you go killing everything)

A) It's been strapped to my back the entire time, along with the rest of my supplies.

B) it's just fire, and I wasn't close enough for it to take affect in the one second that that happened.

C) It's not anywhere near dead yet, It's just got a gash in it's neck dripping a large amount of blood, which I"m assuming is the aquivalent of molten iron.

Extra D. The spear I'm using has a high melting temperature, and a vry high speciffic heat, just that wouldn't melt it...althought he tip has turned red.

...so basically you've put us against something that we can't attack without dying, that all of our weapons even long range ones are useless against and would be instantaneously destroyed, at a point in the strory where most of our powers can do little more than novice elemental manipulation.

Just because something is tricky to kill doesn't mean it can't be killed. I've already though of several ways to kill it. Also, even if you were supplied with a spear by the millitary, it would just be your average spear.

It wasn't from the military, it's a family eirloom I brought from home. Not anything super natural though, it's one of the weapons I used for hunting.
